Draves tops all-American podium

DIVING - Vicki Draves of the USA has won the women’s springboard diving title. With a magnificent performance in both the compulsory and voluntary sections she gained a total of 108.75 points, thereby defeating her compatriot Zoe Ann Olsen.

The third American contestant, P. Elsener, failed to perform her 1½ somersault backward satisfactory. She nevertheless took the bronze medal, by a narrow margin of .92 points, thus leaving Nicole Péllissard empty handed. Yet, the challenges of Miss Péllisard and her French compatriots, M. Moreau (6th) and J. Aubert (10th), remain noteworthy, as France divers have never before been serious rivals.

Edna Child, from the Plaistow club, gained the sixth place, after G. Groemer from Austria. 15-year old Esme Harris from Oxford was 13th for Great Britain.
