ATHLETICS - Belgian Etienne Gailly looked like he was going to win the most epic athletic event of the Olympics: the marathon. But when he entered the stadium, his pace dropped and two runners passed him.
Gailly and Lou, from China, were the early leaders. After leaving the stadium, the contestants headed into northwest Middlesex and Hertfordshire before coming back to the stadium for the finish of the race.
When Gailly entered the stadium, his lead on the Argentinian Delfo Cabrera seemed more than comfortable. But then tragedy hit him. He hardly couldn't move and when Cabrera entered the stadium after him, it was obvious who was going to win. Gailly gave it everything he got, but also homerunner Tom Richards passed him. Not allowed any help, Gailly crashed completely just after the finish line. The bronze medal was his reward for not giving up.
